The Sister's Vows

Part of the structure provided by the Religious Life involves the taking of Vows. Human beings have an innate desire to give themselves wholeheartedly to that which is of the deepest value to them - usually this is another person or a cause.

Consecrated Celibacy is the expression of personal fulfilment in a relationship with God in prayer which frees the heart to embrace the whole of God’s creation.

The Vow of Poverty means a renouncing of attachment to material things, holding all things in common. It springs from the same need which the first Christians felt, as we read in the Acts of the Apostles: “They had everything in common and distribution was made to each as any had need”.

The Vow of Obedience grows from a longing to live fully for God and in his will. This also means responding to God’s will as revealed in each other.
